ARUBA POLICE AND FBI TO INTERVIEW MOUNTAIN BROOK STUDENTS

Aruban police may be in Alabama as early as Monday to interview Mountain Brook High School graduates who were with Natalee Holloway when she disappeared in Aruba.

FBI spokesman Raymond Zicarelli said Saturday that Aruban officials told his office they plan to arrive this week. "The Aruban authorities along with the FBI will be interviewing some of the individuals on the trip," he said.

Gerold Dompig, Aruba's deputy police commissioner, has said the students may have crucial information. The teens returned home the same day and were interviewed soon after by the FBI, but police say they have more questions about the night Holloway disappeared.

The Aruban public prosecutor's office petitioned the State Department last fall for permission to speak with the students, and last month officials asked Rep. Spencer Bachus to expedite the process.

Zicarelli said he did not know how many students or chaperones would be contacted or where the interviews would take place. Although many of the students have left Mountain Brook to attend college, he believed some are still in the area. One friend of Holloway's, Katie Henley, said Saturday she hadn't been contacted personally but had heard that other graduates had been called.

A Birmingham News article said today (Jan. 22) that the Arubans are about to begin interviewing the Mountain Brook, AL, teens who went on the ill-fated class trip. The interviews could begin on Monday. Apparently the FBI will also participate ... perhaps the Arubans will learn some professionalism?

So what is up? Why is this just starting now?

Does anyone think there is not a cover-up in Aruba? I cannot imagine that any rational person would doubt it, judging by the lies and evasions that we have seen from day one. The only question in my mind is how extensive it is.

One thing to note is the timing of these interviews. The Arubans have had eight months to talk with the Mountain Brook teens, yet they are doing so only now, just as the new searches at the sand dunes (where Art Wood found that belt that Aruba ignored and seems to have conveniently "lost") and in the water are underway.

Is this synchronicity by chance? I don't think so.

It seems to me that there must be some kind of debate within Aruba on what to do about this case. Are they prepared to protect their own, risking a continued American embargo? Not only that, but possible American pressure on the Dutch (IF our government ever decides to do anything), who in turn are in a position to come down on their colonial administration?

(There is a precedent for this: they once took over direct administration of the St. Maarten finances following a scandal. I have been thinking of trying to set up a "concerned citizen committee" meeting with the Dutch envoy here to urge that they do the same with the Aruban police. I'm sure they would heed what I have to say!)

I think it could go either way. They could try to come up with some statement by someone putting Natalee in a bad light, and try to use that as fodder to close the case. (That wouldn't solve the question of what happened to her, but who knows whether that fact would impress Aruba.) Or, at least, to let the case go cold.

But if all the statements point to the three scumbags, and I can't imagine that anything wouldn't, maybe the "anti-vdS" faction (IF there is one) might push for stronger action. What more would they need? What more could they get?

We should watch the stories that come from this vigilantly.

I have the feeling that the case is going to move one way or the other. One thing is certain: if the search on Aruba or offshore produces some good evidence (if not the body) and the Arubans dither as usual, the roof will blast off their own cage.

Wonder whos coming, it is Dompig or Janssen. When they are in US space, they have to observe American rules. The

testimonies of the MB Alabama kids will be open record to be published on Internet Blogs so every American citizen

will know whats going on. The questions that the ALE ask will be clearly listed and sent to the MB kids a day before

the questioning. We just want this interrogation process to be played fair and balance. And FBI must be present at

all time at all the question and answer sessions. All the Dutch translations must be completed the same day so that

we have the parallel text of the testimonies of English and Dutch line by line to be on open public record and to be

published on the Weblogs. Let there will be no omissions, no mistranslations, no revisions, no lies, no treacheries

and no politics written into all these testaments. The acts of ALE and Representative Spencer Bachus will be

faithfully executed under the watch of our American Constitution.
