PATRICK VAN DER EEM ARRESTED AGAIN...THIS TIME FOR COCAINE

A LEOPARD NEVER CHANGES ITS SPOTS

ORANJESTAD — Patrick van der Eem – who was the undercover man to whom Joran van der Sloot had made a confession – was apprehended yesterday evening around seven o’clock for possession of drugs and making violent threats. (Note: Amigoe does not reveal that Van der Eem was in possession of cocaine...that information came from the Netherlands news HERE.)

The police arrested Van der Eem in his room in the Radisson hotel. According to the local media, Van der Eem had previously stayed in other hotels, amongst others, the Rui, Westen, and Occidental and had checked-out without paying. According to the Public Prosecutor the drugs, which he was carrying at that moment, were for his own use. Van der Eem is still confined at the police station in Noord and the case will be investigated.

Van der Eem became known through his contribution to a broadcasted television program of crime reporter Peter de Vries on the disappearance of the American teenager Natalee Holloway on Aruba.

He had already been involved in an earlier drug case. He presumably got the scar on the left hand side of his face during his information role in a drug case. In addition, Van der Eem was confined for a short while last December after a report on battering his girlfriend.

DRUG SMUGGLERS ARRESTED--LOCATION OF INTERCEPTION KEPT SECRET

WHY SUCH A BIG SECRET?

WHAT ARE THEY HIDING?

ORANJESTAD — During a drug prevention operation at sea last night, the Navy intercepted 350 kilo of cocaine. The hard drugs were stored aboard a suspected go-fast in de central of the Caribbean Sea.

The specific place cannot be revealed with regard to the continued research in this case, says spokesman Karen Gelijns for the Royal Navy in the Caribbean.

The suspected go-fast was spotted Monday afternoon by an American Navy patrol aircraft at sea. (Sounds like the U.S. has to do their job for them!) The crew of the Navy frigate Harer Majesteits Van Amstel received the order to intercept and investigate the vessel. The distance of 75 miles between the station ship and the suspected go-fast was quickly bridged, and the vessel stopped.

On board the vessel there were four persons, a large volume of fuel and fourteen sacks of approx. 25 kilo cocaine each. The crew of the go-fast has been handed over to the authorities for further research on the drug smuggling case.

Jacksonville surveillance planes bust huge shipments of cocaine

Two U.S. Custom and Border Protection surveillance planes based in Jacksonville helped authorities seize two different shipments of cocaine totaling about $80 million. The first plane was alerted to a suspicious aircraft from Venezuela flying over Aruba May 11, according to a Custom and Border Protection news release.


The surveillance plane tracked the aircraft to a remote airfield in Mexico. Local authorities seized the aircraft along with 2,640 pounds of cocaine worth about $24 million. Another plane was patrolling the Caribbean Ocean near Nicaragua May 18 when it spotted a boat loaded with barrels. The occupants of the boat fled to the Nicaragua/Honduras coast before they ran aground and ditched the drugs. The plane directed the U.S. Coast Guard to the abandoned boat, which was filled with 6,215 pounds of cocaine valued at about $56 million, the news release said.

It seems plausible that Natalee may have been slipped GHB. She was fine before Joran et al arrived at C&C's and even immediately after they arrive; but then she began to act differently right before the bar closed. She was seen being led out "by the hand" of C&C's, possibly confused and having difficulty making rational decisions, and then getting into a car with strangers--something that Natalee would NEVER do. She was also reported as hanging out Deepak's window screaming, "Aruba!"

Rambling incoherent speech, giddiness, silliness:

VAN DER SLOOT: ...There was one remark she did make like she told me, she asked me if they were my slaves because they were driving around but Deepak and Satish never ended up hearing that...she said in Alabama we consider black people slaves.

VAN DER SLOOT: ...she wanted to go see sharks is what she said and then she came with a strange story that her mom was Hitler's sister or Hitler's sister's daughter and she was sorry to me for that because — because I don't know if she thought I was German or something and I'm like "I'm Dutch, so I don't really care about anything like that." When one looks over the pattern of her involvement in the Natalee Holloway case, we have to ask did Karin Janssen do a "friend a favor" or purposely buy time for the suspects to rehearse their lies, erase all evidence, change statements, allow some statements to become missing and therefore was she directly involved in a cover-up?

We remember it was Karin Janssen that asked the most unfathomable questions of Beth:

• If she was related to Hitler

• About life insurance policies

All the while maintaining a position of non-disclosure to the family that were so desperate to know what happened to the victim in this case, their daughter Natalee.

What did Karin Janssen know before she had the security guards arrested?

Early on, Karin Janssen knew that not only was Natalee never returned to her hotel, and that given this fact, the "black security guard" described by Joran, Deepak and Satish could not possibly have existed, since surveillance and hotel employee witnesses all indicated that no sign of Natalee was ever recorded, nor any of the other descriptions fabricated by the Kalpoes and Joran.

Karin Janssen knew that neither John nor Jones were working as security guards during the time frame that Joran, Deepak and Satish claimed to have dropped Natalee off at the Holiday Inn hotel. She also knew that the descriptions given by Joran, Deepak and Satish of clothing they claimed the "dark skinned" guard wore was not anything remotely close to what Holiday Inn security guards wore. Yet, Karin Janssen ignored these discrepancies and had the security guards arrested claiming she had evidence.

It can be concluded that given all the information Karin Janssen had available to her, the notion that there was good "cause for suspicion" was knowingly false, and the fact that the guards were still pursued, in light of ALE and prosecutors knowing that no drop off ever occurred, suggests collusion between the ALE and Karin Janssen for the sole purpose of denying Natalee's family the truth of what had been inflicted upon their child, and covering up for the real perpetrators: Joran van der Sloot, Deepak Kalpoe, Satish Kalpoe and Paulus van der Sloot.

Prior to their arrest, Karin Janssen did not investigate John and Jones, she knew the three last seen taking Natalee had lied, and yet went forward with their arrest. After which she took yet another curious step by requesting that the attorney representing both the Security Guards, Chris Lejuez, drop Mickey Johns as a client.

Two large double standards from this turn of events by Karin Janssen were Paulus van der Sloot being allowed to represent his son and the Kalpoe brothers, and both suspects Steve Croes and Geoffry van Cromvoirt were represented by the same attorney as well – neither scenario warranted the objection by Janssen that the security guards’ legal representation did.

She was under the influence of alcohol. And then they saw her walk through the front door of the hotel inside the lobby.

And these reports came from the deputy commissioner. They came from the spokesperson from the Ministry of Justice. And then, all of a sudden, these statements and these confessions just disappeared.

And number four would, you know, when you think of the DEA witness, Eric Williams, was not given—was not—did not give a statement regarding the incident that occurred May 31 where Joran is again, admitting these sexual assaults committed against Natalee.

And number five, you remember there were many witnesses there that night that were never asked to give a statement until 20 to 30 days later.

DAVE:. One of the things I really had a concern with was the FBI was contacted and the FBI wanted to come to the island. The FBI wanted to get involved due to the fact that we had an American citizen missing on their island. I recently found out that decision was made by the prosecutor and the police department to not allow the FBI to become involved as they should. In fact they sent a dive team up approximately a week later and they ended up going home. They didn't even step foot in the ocean.

In further attempts to obstruct the truth of the crimes against Natalee Holloway, they threatened to jail Art Woods for not having a permit, created lies about TES disturbing turtle eggs, and statements from Dompig surfaced with unfounded ideas that Natalee died of an overdose.


Dompig then came to the Unites States to question the Mountain Brook teens with a questionnaire prepared by Janssen, and continued his attempts to slander Natalee and her family by undermining her credibility and her innocence with defamatory statements directed at Beth and Dave about insurance scam lies, and insinuating that funds they received to help them find their daughter were mishandled.


These were diversionary tactics utilized by the Aruban Justice Department along with Janssen's statement that "you can't barge in their like cowboys" which was meant to demean American standards while her actions and methodologies were corrupt attempts to protect the suspects by zeroing in on the innocent Security Guards who for 10 days were not in any line-up, only questioned one time, and their alibis ignored.


Karin Janssen and the other Aruban officials continue, even today, along with the bloggers on-line, in planting lies and disrupting forward progress in this case.


The fact that Prosecutor Karin Janssen and polis detectives Dennis Jacobs and Jan van der Straten, all in charge of the investigation, were not pursuing the facts, or the surveillance tapes that demonstrated Natalee never return to the hotel; while ignoring all the contradictions of the statements by Joran and Kalpoe brothers paints a very clear picture indeed. It would seem impossible for any competent professional to come up with the strategical course that Karin Janssen utilized and not realize she was involved in a collusion to cover up these crimes.


Common sense dictates that her swiftness to arrest the Security Guards based on known lies made by the criminals in this case, not obtaining a search warrant for the property of the van der Sloots and surrounding area, not following procedures for testing of DNA which caused that evidence to be rejected by a judge - all supports the cover-up that the world has watched unfold.

Feeling a little foolish???

Your TV show recently ran a story wherein "informed sources" said that Natalee Holloway died on Aruba from an overdose of cocaine. I did not watch, but am told that you implied the overdose was self-inflicted.

Back it up. Show some evidence. In other words, put up or shut up, because these allegations, if unsubstantiated, slander a girl who consistently did well in school, worked part-time jobs to earn the money for her trip, was in the Who's Who of American high school students and whose plight resonates among concerned Americans to this day.

Were these "informed sources" present at the event? If so, why are they only reporting the news two years later, rather than report to the local police and FBI? If they sat by and did nothing, or joined in, are they not guilty of a crime as well?

If not, whose hearsay is being quoted for support? More to the point, whose interests are being served by this story, and why are you putting it on the air now that the Texas Equusearch team seems ready to search the waters off Aruba ... a search that would have been done a long time ago had the Aruban government not thwarted it?

Aruba has from day one floated rumors, hearsay, innuendo and assailed Natalee's family for demanding answers. As has been pointed out, any professional police force would have been investigating reports rather than airing them on television, and would not make allegations without evidence. Even the Dutch have pointed out the utter incompetence of the Aruban police.

So why are you chiming in with more slanderous reports that cannot be substantiated? If your sources are in a position to confirm this information, they were present at the event or have access to the results of an autopsy. If neither is true, then they are repeating rumors or are following an agenda to discredit Natalee when progress in the search seems near. I can imagine whose interests are served by such a campaign, but they are not those of the American people or of the Holloway Twitty family.

I frankly believe that your "informed sources" exist nowhere but on paper. If they do exist, why not demand answers to these questions? Or are you just trying to exploit this tragedy to give your ratings a temporary fillip? If so, is anyone on Aruba, the apparent beneficiary of anything that would slander Natalee, acting as your prompter?

If you want to do some relevant reporting, the Palm Beach tourism bureau has voted unanimously to employ a Mr. Jorge Pesquera, head of the Aruba Hotel and Tourism Authority. His qualifications include taking the lead in setting up a group "to minimize the impact of the Holloway story," according to a Palm Beach Post story of July 19.

Now there's something to look into: a plum tourism job going to someone who took the lead in smoothing over the economic impact from the disappearance of an American citizen. And the Palm Beach tourism bureau found that to be, not a scandalous disgrace that merited contempt, but rather a reason to hire him.

Why not investigate that? You could take on the money interests; you could denounce the moral atrocity that this implies; you could show compassion and concern for the family of a missing American citizen and outrage that helping the Aruban government cover its tracks is seen as a credit on a resume.

Bet you won't. Unsubstantiated slander is so much easier. It's no wonder that more and more Americans disbelieve what passes for "news." Show some integrity.

Things you should know before visiting WPB:

If your car gets stolen... don't count on much help from anyone except your insurance company.

If you get carjacked... maybe you will get a ride home, but carry taxi fare in your sock just in case (14 carjackings, two deaths, in just 8 weeks in PB County).


Going downtown to the famous "Clematis Street" the same place Donald Trump calls the next South Beach (don't believe it) You'll notice that "the Donald" always travels with lots of bodyguards.


Stay in a lit area at night.


Keep your cash out of site.


Leave your jewelry at home or locked in a safe. The only people admiring it are going to steal if from you.


Don't stay late (after midnight).


Be aware that many of the citizens downtown carry weapons.The Palm Beach Post brought that fact to the front page of the local section as a reporter interviewed a local law enforcement officer who confirmed the fact that there are a lot of weapons in the nightclubs downtown.


Watch for panhandlers... especially if you are eating dinner outside.


Be prepared to pay a lot of money for "much of nothing" at the local eateries and bars, everything is way overpriced.


Parking, bring a lot of quarters or use a well lit garage or parking lot near the Clematis.


Do not get into a altercation with any of the "locals" you may end up dead... as one poor soul did in 2003. His killer walked.. read more about the State Attorney in Palm Beach County below, aka: Mr. "Swinging Door" Krischer.


If you do go downtown, DO NOT WALK NORTH OF THE POLICE STATION for any reason or a better landmark, the big well lit building, the county courthouse. It's no mans land and you are asking for trouble.


If you happen to walk downtown during the day, try not to look at the filthy sidewalks and nightclubs facing the street. (They only look good in the dark.... simple pressure cleaning once a month would solve the problem)


Driving back to a hotel (and never stay at one downtown) find out where Okeechobee Blvd is... head south from downtown, onto Okeechobee, then west to the Interstate (95).


Staying north of town? Use the Interstate to get there. Never go north on US 1 (Dixie Highway) unless you are looking for drugs or hookers... plenty of those and if you happen to be talking on your cell phone and miss the business end of WPB, you can find more hookers and crack dealers further up US 1 in Riviera Beach.

Palm Beach county is rated in the top five for its size in drug use nationwide. (Our commissioners are so proud of themselves)

This whole area north of Datura Street and up to the north end of Riviera Beach has been blighted since the 70's and there is no hope of it ever getting plowed under and rebuilt.


This area is responsible for 65% of the police budget annually, 65% of the crime, most of the drugs, and most of the carjackers. It's also a known fact here that 65% of the crimes are committed by career criminals. The reason: Krischer and his buddies, the criminal defense attorneys put them back on the street on a regular basis.

Most important... 2 out of every 5 vehicles in West Palm Beach do not have insurance! This is a fact. Many drivers do not have a license that is valid either.


Watch out for the cars that look like police cars but have $5,000 wheels on them unless you are looking for drugs. If you don't see them you can certainly hear them... $4,000 stereo systems pushing 100db's.

I just don't buy it.

First she's dead. Then she's not. Maybe she drowned. Maybe she died from the date rape drug. She was sold into sex slavery. She ran away. She hit her head and died. For the last two years there have been endless theories on what happened to Natalee.

SO WHAT IS IT?

Now Bill O'Reilly stated on his show that investigators claim she died of massive cardiac arrest from cocaine? (1) How do they know she is dead? AND (2) How do they know what she ingested if there is no body?

Since the Dutch are the ones who are currently investigating Natalee's case, I am going to guess this spin came from their end. So if this source is from the Dutch investigators what are they going on? The credibility of the ALE reports? Joran et al. blatant lies? All the spin? Their own assumptions? I want more facts before I believe this crap.

I just don't buy it.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I just don't believe it.

And these problems are increasingly alarming citizens and politicians. There is the frustration of the Netherlands's image as a tourist destination for drugs and sexual debauchery. Other concerns include the penetration of international crime organizations that have taken over prostitution, drug trades/trafficking, and trafficking (sexual slavery) in women and children.


"Has the Netherlands changed? Yes," Labor Party member Frank de Wolf, said. "There is not only a different mood among our people and politicians, but there are different problems now… in the past, we looked at legal prostitution as a women's liberation issue; now it's looked at as exploitation of women and should be stopped." ORANJESTAD – The Public Prosecutor has extended the custody of the five suspects that were arrested during a raid in Savaneta and San Nicolas last Wednesday, with another eight days.


Last Wednesday, the team of special projects of the police corps arrested the five men, L.R (could that be LORENZO?), J.V., R.V, D.W., and M.W. and confiscated 898 hemp plants, two live cartridges, five firearms, cars and money, during house searches in several homes. The Public Prosecutor indicated that the five suspects will be charged with possession of hemps, firearms, and live cartridges.

WHEN DID THE COVER UP BEGIN?

BUSY DAY IN ARUBA - MAY 30, 2005

Police statements given by Joran van der Sloot and Deepak Kalpoe purporting the Holiday Inn drop off lie was created in haste after receiving a phone call from Paulus van der Sloot in the early morning hours of May 31st, while on their way to the van der Sloot home. Yet movements of these suspects on May 30th, as well as communications records and statements from Aruban officials regarding these events that were taking place on May 30, 2005 imply that the cover-up had begun prior to Beth and Jug Twitty's setting foot on Aruban soil.

1. FREDDY KNOWS

The following words of Freddy Zedan in his June 12, 2005 witness statement would imply that the Holiday Inn fabrication was collaborated on May 30, 2005 - many hours prior to Jug and Beth Twitty's arrival at the van der Sloot's residence on the morning of May 31, 2005.

(a) On Monday afternoon on the 30th, Joran came to my house. He told me that the previous day, Sunday, he had befriended a girl in the Holiday Inn casino and that she had invited him to come to Carlos and Charlies that evening.

...They drove to the Lighthouse, she wanted to see sharks. But Deepak only drove up to the Lighthouse because his car is very low to the ground and cannot drive up to the North side of Aruba. The girl had said to Joran that if Deepak and Satish would have lived in her town, they would be slaves. After that they drove to the hotel. When the girl had pushed open the door of the car, she fell to the ground. Joran wanted to help her but she shoved him away.

(b) The next day, Tuesday May 31st 2005 in the afternoon, I was with Joran at the raquet club.

2. THE EARLY MORNING PHONE CALL

Paulus Van der Sloot claims in his witness statement of June 18, 2005 that he went to bed after picking up his son at the McDonalds at 11:00 PM on the evening of May 29, 2005 and slept through the night. Paulus denies Beth Twitty's claim that he stated on the early morning of May 31, 2005 that he picked up Joran and Natalee at McDonalds at 4:30 AM on May 30, 2005. However, according to Greta Van Susteren, Paulus concedes to a Dutch TV correspondent that he may have used his phone throughout the night. Also, the Superior Court judgment in January, 2007 which denied compensation for wrongful detainment ruled that the Department of Justice acknowledges that Paulus own declaration states that he picked up Natalee and Joran. The court stated that this could be considered just cause for detainment in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway.

3. THE MISSING PERSON'S REPORT

According to Jan van Straten, a missing person's report was filed with the Aruban Law Enforcement by the beach patrol on behalf of the chaperone, Paul Lily on the morning of May 30, 2005. It could be assumed that this report would have included a description of the people who Natalee Holloway was last seen with as well as a description of the vehicle. It could be concluded that those within the ALE who had a personal and/or working connection to Paulus van der Sloot would have clued in regarding the identities of those described in the report. Is it possible that the van der Sloots were forewarned in regards to what info Natalee's friends had reported - information that could implicate Joran in the happenings of that fateful morning of May 30, 2005

4. INTERNET CHATTER WITH A PURPOSE

Deepak Kalpoe conveys in his June 11, 2005 suspect statement that after dropping Joran and Natalee off at the beach on the morning of May 30, 2005 he and Satish returned home. He states that after Satish goes to bed he chatted on the internet with a friend named John Charles Croes. In his June 29, 2005 suspect statement Deepak convey that the purpose of his chatting "was to help the police and the Office of the DA with regard to the investigation so that they could see that I was indeed home in the night from Sunday to Monday." It can be assumed that Deepak Kalpoe’s attempt to create an alibi on the morning of May 30, 2005 prior to Natalee Holloway being reported missing would imply that Deepak knew that "something bad" had happened.

5. CHANGING STORIES

On June 30, 2005 Karin Jansen was being interviewed on the "Abrams Report" when she claimed that on May 30, 2005 Paulus van der Sloot assured Joran, Deepak and Satish that without a body there is no case. However, her words changed on subsequent days. Could Karin Janssen be part of the cover-up?

(a) “He confirmed to me that he told them that a few days after she disappeared." July 1, 2005 - FOX NEWS

(b) "He also spoke about the case with his son and the two other suspects some days after Holloway's disappearance." July 5, 2005 - CNN

6. QUESTIONINGS OF MAY 30, 2005

Prior to Jug and Beth Twitty's arrival on the Island, certain happenings of May 30, 2005 would imply that someone within the ALE was assisting Joran, Deepak and Satish in getting their stories straight regarding their encounter with Natalee Holloway.

Joran van der Sloot

On July 12, 2005 Anita Van der Sloot stated in a Joe Scarborough interview that Joran was picked up from school by police on Monday, May 30, 2005.

Deepak Kalpoe

Deepak Kalpoe claims in his official statement of June 10, 2005 that he vacuumed his vehicle prior to picking up Joran Van der Sloot on Sunday May 29, 2005. He remembers telling interrogators at Bubali that his vehicle was very clean because he had vacuumed his car the prior evening. This would imply Deepak was questioned by police at Bubali station on May 30, 2005.

Satish Kalpoe

On June 29, 2005 in a secretly recorded conversation in a police van, Satish Kalpoe tells Joran he told police about the choller in his first police statement. Satish's witness statement of May 31, 2005 has been revealed and there is no mention of the choller. It can be assumed that the first statement must have been taken on May 30, 2005.

7. THE RACQUET BALL CLUB?

Art Wood's investigation revealed that Joran Van der Sloot lied in his June 14, 2005 suspect statement in regards to his tennis lesson on May 30, 2005 at 7:00 PM. Art revealed, "when I investigated the Racquet Club I found that Joran had never played tennis there that night." Inquiring minds want to know what Joran was doing at the Racquet Ball Club following his father dropping him off at 5:00 PM on May 30, 2005. According to revealed court testimony - sixteen hours prior Carlos Ramos, the gardener, had observed Joran and Deepak sitting in Deepak's vehicle near the Racquet Ball Club. It is even more curious when it is considered that Joran's June 14, 2005 suspect statement reveals that he was again dropped off at 5:00 PM at the Club by his father on the evening of May 31, 2005 to play a game of tennis which he concedes he never played.

8. STILL LYING ON THE BEACH?

Joran van der Sloot declares the following in his suspect statement of June 14, 2005 that after his tennis lesson at 7:15 PM on the evening of May 30, 2005:

"I walked over the beach to the Wyndham Hotel. On the way there I saw a lot of people. I did not go to Fisherman's Hut to see if Natalee was still lying there,"

Why would Joran entertain the thought that Natalee would be at the exact same place he had left her seventeen hours earlier?

9. THE FABRICATION

While detained at the same time, Mickey John claimed that Deepak conveyed to him that Paulus van der Sloot was a participant in the fabrication of the Holiday Inn story. As this account was related to Natalee Holloway's mother and stepfather on the morning of May 31, 2005, the implication of Paulus' involvement is that the collaboration must have taken place on May 30, 2005.

10. ONE HOUR GAP

In his June 11, 2005 suspect statement Deepak Kalpoe declares that after leaving his place of employment on the evening of May 30, 2005, he joined Joran at the Radisson casino at 12 o'clock midnight. He states in his declaration that two hours later Joran and him left the Radisson and were in the process of parking at the Wyndham when Paulus called to inform Joran that Natalee's mother and stepfather were at the home. Deepak then declares in his June 13, 2005 suspect statement that following Paulus call, he and Joran went directly to the van der Sloot's residence - arriving there at 2:40 AM.

Inquiring minds want to know how Deepak's time line is possible when it is taken into consideration that Beth and Jug did not arrive at the van der Sloot's residence until approximately 3:30 AM on the morning of May 31, 2005. According to Jug Twitty, he and Beth were still at the Holiday Inn at 3:00 AM viewing video footage. It was at that time that one of the employee's from Universal Air who were assisting them came rushing into the Holiday Inn to inform them that Deepak's vehicle had been observed within the gate at the van der Sloot's compound. The Twittys were driven to the police station and after waiting in the parking lot for a period of time, they were driven to the van der Sloot's residence.

These facts clearly show that the four main suspects not only had involvement in the crimes committed against Natalee Holloway, but also their intentions to cover up their crimes. That none of these criminals have yet been prosecuted is appalling and disturbing.

I have followed the Natalee Holloway case closely since it began. While free speech is to be encouraged, the tone of your article, which appeared online this morning, is so one-sided that I am forced to believe that your intention was to denigrate Natalee's family.


You say the Holloway Twittys have cast Aruba's "police force as inept bunglers." Well, let's see ... within 48 hours of Natalee's disappearance, Beth Twitty had arrived on the island, reviewed the videotapes at the Holiday Inn where Natalee had stayed, proved conclusively that the lies of the three suspects about returning her to the hotel were just that -- lies -- and had shown those same tapes to Aruban police.


Who had Aruba seen fit to arrest? The three people last seen with Natalee? No, two security guards who had never been seen in Natalee's company and who were singled out by the suspects themselves.

You speak about "the ill fate presumed to have befallen Natalee Holloway" and sneer at the "vigilante justice seekers." Obviously it's ridiculous to think that, simply because an honors high-school student with a full scholarship to medical school has been missing for two years, foul play could be responsible. Equally ridiculous is the idea that anyone seeking justice -- which the family has interpreted as simply wanting answers to their daughter's fate -- could be motivated by such things as belief that an American missing abroad is a matter of some importance. Why see a potential threat to other tourists? Why not do what Dennis Jacobs said to Dave Holloway (after asking how much money he had ... a normal response from a dedicated law enforcement officer, I'm certain): go to the bar and have a beer?


You seem to accept as fact Aruba's assertion that the damage from the economic boycott has ended. Were you interested, I could direct you to article showing that the decline is both more severe than Aruba has acknowledged (assuming that you trust Aruba's figures to begin with) and is continuing.


My understanding is that the Aruban government gave civil servants an afternoon, not a day, to join the search. And according to an AP article, participation was far less than Aruba put it.


The attorney for the Kalpoes, one of whom said on the Dr. Phil show that Natalee was a "slut" and dressed "like a slut," laments that his clients have had "this sword over their heads for two years now." The Holloway Twitty family has had a different sword over their heads for two years ... the agony of wondering what befell their daughter. I know which plight is more deserving of sympathy, in my eyes.


Perhaps you would care to detail the scores of lies that we have gotten from the three suspects. Given that Joran van der Sloot has given at least four explanations of how he got home from the beach where he said he took Natalee (though he also said he took her to his house), some people might think his actions merit suspicion. And given his father's now-famous phrase, "No body, no crime," those suspicions might be extended.


Your nearly page-long coverage of the "compassion for a desperate mother" that Julia Renfro is alleged to have felt omits a few facts. Such as Joran van der Sloot's statement that he had sex with Natalee while she was drifting in and out of consciousness. Some people might define that as rape.


And Renfro's speculations about what Natalee might have done conveniently try to take the focus off the three suspects ... whom former Chief of Police Gerald Dompig has said are "guilty as hell." A drunken Natalee, left on the beach, is going to swin to one of the nearby boats? No writer for a sixth-grade newspaper would let such an absurd claim go unquestioned.


I am not going to discuss my ideas of what happened to Natalee Holloway. But I might suggest that you balance your pro-Aruban account with a little background.


Such as: the FBI agents sent to Aruba were outraged that they were being slighted, not allowed to do anything useful, and were kept out of the picture.

Such as: far from being sympathetic, the Aruban government lied about the support it was giving the family (Dave Holloway is on record as denying the free rooms and other benefits).

Such as: a water search was on the verge of being launched, and all that Aruba had to do was contact the FBI. It refused to do so.

Such as: the Aruban government's sympathy did not extend to Beth Twitty, whom it told would have to apologize for her statements or it would stop its investigation.

Such as: Arubans demonstrated in the street against Beth Twitty. (Did your self-commiserating Arubans, sad at the impact of this tragedy on their businesses, see fit to mention this?)

Such as: an unqualified, specific promise from Steve Cohen, one of the many functionaries who tried to represent the Aruban government, that the three suspects would be re-questioned. It never happened.


I could cite dozens more issues. But why bother? I do not speak for the Holloway Twitty family. But your totally one-sided article leaves me doubting that they would speak to you.
