SALARY INCREASE? NO CLUE...

If these people are so worried about their money, why don't they get "in the game"? They would have a lifetime of money to live out the rest of their poor, pathetic lives. Besides, if they get caught, their corruption will be looked over by their counterparts.

No consensus on the salary increase date

CURACAO – The coalition has not reached a consensus this morning on the effective date of the salary increase of the council members and commissioners. The parties are in agreement that the salary increase is a must, or as some of them say, they sympathize with it.

On the one hand you have PAR that basically assumes that the increase should take effect for a next BC and Island Council. On the other hand there are the remaining coalition parties that are of the opinion that the increase should take effect right now and the opposition in the Island Council supports this opinion.

According to parliamentary party leader Oscar Castillo, the PAR sympathizes with the increase following the adjustments of ministers and Members of Parliament on National Government level, but the PAR’s principle was always that salary increase for political administrators should never be approved by incumbent administrators.

According to MAN-council member Urvin Macaay, the remaining coalition parties do not consider the proposed adjustment as an increase, but as the setting right of the salaries. “Compared to the salaries of the heads of public service, ministers, and Members of Parliament, ours are behind. The proposal is now setting this right. According to us, this is not an increase. You can arrange an increase for your successors, but according to us, not in case of setting salaries right”, said Macaay.
