HALEY BARBOUR--MISSISSIPPI GOVERNOR
Haley Reeves Barbour is the current governor of Mississippi, and a Republican. He gained a national spotlight in August 2005 after Mississippi was hit by Hurricane Katrina. Since then he has been under strong speculation as a possible 2008 presidential candidate, although he was rumored to be considering running even before then.
This was confirmed when it was discovered long time friend Ed Rogers owned the "Barbour for President" Web site.
"I called the governor while he was out of town because I would like to just get his position on it," Holloway told The Meridian Star. "But I haven't heard back from him." Holloway said residents of Mississippi can boycott Aruba without the governor's urging, but he would like to see Barbour support the effort.
Pete Smith, a spokesman for Barbour, said Tuesday the governor has not had time to consider the boycott. "He's just gotten back from Iraq and he is focusing on federal aid for Hurricane Katrina victims and he has not had a chance to think about it. But he will take a look at it," Smith said.

Let's see if he keeps his word...since he plans on running for president, and all....

Michelle... You must understand what Katrina did to our state. Even with the freezing weather we still have many people living in tents on the coast. There are so many people who no longer have a place to call home.. only their property where a house used to be. Governor Barbour is trying his best to help these people.
Most of the focus after the storm was on New Orleans. The eye of the storm came ashore on the west side of Mississippi. As you know the worst part of a hurricane is on the east side of the eye. Mississippi was devestated!!
Please, before everyone starts bashing Gov. Barbour, give him time to finish the work he's doing.
How long does it take to consider a
boycott. This is not old news and i'm sure the governor is well aware of the holloway case. Any true leader would need only a minute to say yes i will or no i won't. Politicians are the worst when it comes to a simple yes or no answer. The Aruba police are now
killing Natalee Holloways character
and telling us she was a drunk and of low morals and the rest of the kids as well..when will he stand by a US citizen and defend them..well Mr.Barbour..who wants to be president were waiting son.
Mr. Barbour is jealous of Alabama. Airbus and Boeing are setting up shops in Alabama to manufacture airplane parts, bringing in more jobs and properities to Alabama. Mr. Barbour is doing a very poor job. The WorldCom corruption and scandal has hurt Mississippi economy. Mississippi is the poorest state in the Union under his watch.
Maybe this is his nice way of saying he does not support the boycott. Maybe he is speaking for his state and saying the boycott is not a worthy cause.
