CURACAO ISLAND COUNCIL TO RECEIVE SALARY INCREASE

Maybe they should be spending that money on law enforcement, stopping drug and human trafficking, money laundering and government corruption. These islands don't have their priorities straight...and it is all because of MONEY. They don't care about morals...only about money and keeping all their dirty little secrets in the closet.

CURACAO – The 21 members of the Island Council can expect a salary increase of 8000 to 10.000 guilders per month and so level up their salaries with that of the parliamentarians of the National Government.

The most important argument for the increase is that the salaries of the ministers, members of parliament, and commissioners of the other islands were increased in the past period. The proposal was discussed in a meeting of the coalition parties yesterday.

All the chairmen of the council parliamentary parties will meet today and the proposal will afterwards be discussed in a meeting of the central committee of the Island Council. The parties strive for getting this matter taken care off before the recess of the Island Council that starts next week Monday.

The proposal is not only for a salary increase, but also for a pension scheme for the members of the Island Council. A premium is currently being deducted from their salary, while there is no pension scheme settled for them yet.

According to the proposal, the members of the Island Council are entitled to a full pension after three government terms, a total of 12 years. Also the salaries of the commissioners will increase with the salary increase of the council members. What the increase is going to be exactly could not be discovered this morning.

Most of the council members didn’t want to comment on the proposal; they fear the negative reaction of the public. (No, really...do you think???)

Urvin Macaay (MAN) was one of the few that were willing to say something: “I know that the matter is not a popular one and that it will cause a lot of resistance. But you can’t achieve anything for others, when your own matters are not taken care of. Many would say that this is not opportune, but matters that concern the salaries of politicians, are never opportune.”
