YOUNG FEMALE BODY PARTS FOUND IN BAG

AMSTERDAM — Police in Rotterdam are investigating 20 tips from the public about the body parts found in a sports bag in the City's Persoons Harbour last month.


A police spokesperson said several of the leads seemed promising and most of the calls from the public concern the bag. A photograph of the black-turquoise bag, which carries the logo 'Colorado Super Batters', was published on Tuesday as the authorities appealed for information that could help identify the victim.



Forensic tests have established the remains come from a young female, aged between 12 and 16. She was at least 1.68 metres high. The victim's identity has yet to be established. "DNA testing takes a long time. We have, as of yet, not come up with any matches," the spokesperson said.


Passers-by fished the bag from Persoons Harbour on 20 June. One described seeing "flesh and blood" when he opened the bag. Police will not say what body parts were found or discuss the victim's ethnicity.

Police are also asking people who know of a girl missing from their neighbours to come forward.


...There have been several occasions in recent years when dismembered body parts have been found in rivers and lakes in the Netherlands. It is thought some of the finds relate to people who have committed suicide (It's always suicide with these people, isn't it?) by drowning. Their bodies can be damaged by the propellers of passing boats.
